Citizenship Award Winner – Karissa Wierenga

June 18th, 2019

Karissa Wierenga is a Grade 3 student at Neerlandia Public Christian School. She was nominated for the Citizenship Award by teacher Jason Ferster who says, “Karissa is very helpful, considerate and respectful towards others.” She is often the first one to offer help to students in need, whether it is cleaning up spills or lending school supplies. She shows concern for others by including students when they don’t have a partner or friend to play with. Last year, during the school-wide letter writing project, Karissa made sure everyone was included. She went out of her way to ask individuals if they had received a letter and wrote one to them if they hadn’t.

She demonstrates responsibility by working hard and putting in her best effort with every task, whether it’s independent, partner, or group work. Karissa is also dependable, helping in the classroom without being asked by tidying up her space and others, cleaning up stations, and putting classroom materials away.

The school board is pleased to present Karissa with the Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions she makes in her school and community. Congratulations!
