Board revises Education Plan Priorities

June 14th, 2019

At their June 12th meeting, the board revised the three-year Education Plan priorities based on results of the 2019 Satisfaction Survey. Placing greater emphasis on the importance of student-teacher relationships, the new priorities are:

  • Student-Teacher Relationships
  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Support for Staff

The meeting which was held at Fort Assiniboine School gave Trustees an opportunity to learn about the school’s safe and caring family atmosphere. Principal Lorna Hiemstra and School Council Chair Penny Price spoke about their great staff, community support, as well as the array of Career and Technology Foundations options for junior high students.

Also at the meeting, Brenda Harris-Baron, granddaughter of John Richards (J.R.) Harris, provided a biography of her grandfather for the board archives. The collection included photographs and newspaper clippings of the construction and dedication of the former J.R. Harris Junior High School. It was the first stand-alone junior high school in the Barrhead area, opening in 1960.
