School board asks Northland School Division to transfer territory to PHPS
The area located between the Swan Hills and Barrhead wards is currently part of Northland School Division. The school board will ask Northland School Division to transfer this area to PHPS. If agreement is reached, the next step is for PHPS to make a formal request to the Education Minister.School board asks Northland School Division to transfer territory to PHPS

School board seeks partners for Westlock area School Resource Officer
The school board is committed to securing a School Resource Officer (SRO) in our Westlock area schools, and are actively seeking partners to help fund the 3-year pilot program. The SRO program is funded by schools and communities.

Concussion protocol available to schools
What is a concussion? What are the symptoms and signs of concussion? When should I take my child to the doctor? PHPS’ new Concussion Protocol includes important guidelines for students, parents, caregivers and staff, including:

  • Strategies to develop awareness of the seriousness of concussions
  • Strategies for the prevention and identification of concussions
  • Management procedures for diagnosed concussions
  • Training for school staff

Facilities to focus on maintenance, health & safety program
Director of Facilities Tracy Tyreman presented the annual accountability report. Areas of focus for the coming year include:

  • Maintenance of buildings
  • Infrastructure Maintenance Renewal (IMR) program
  • Health and Safety

Vista Virtual School – responding to the learner as an individual
Principal Mike Loitz and Associate Principal Treena Bradbury presented a report to the school board on Vista Virtual School. Teacher Diane Woodworth video-conferenced from the Calgary Campus to speak about effective teacher-student relationships as part of the report. Click here for a complete copy of the report.
