We offer Kindergarten at nine of our community schools. French Immersion Kindergarten is available at our Barrhead and Westlock elementary schools. Every spring our schools host special events to welcome new Kindergarten students and their parents to Kindergarten. We will share this event information on this page as it becomes available.

What happens in Kindergarten?
Children explore and learn about the world through play. In Kindergarten your child will discover reading, math, physical education, art and music in preparation for a life of learning.

Who can register for Kindergarten?
Children who will be 5 by December 31.

What should I bring to register?
Your child’s birth certificate or proof of citizenship (Passport or Visa). Your child must be 5 by December 31, 2017 to start Kindergarten.
A detailed land location or rural address. We need this to confirm you are registering at the right school and to begin planning for busing.

What if I can’t attend the registration event at my community school?
Call your community school to make other arrangements.

What about busing for Kindergarten students?
Busing is free for rural Kindergarten students attending their designated school.
Busing is available for in-town Kindergarten students for $175/year on a first-come, first-served basis. Bus passes go on sale July 17 at the the Westlock bus shop (10320 – 107 St) and the Barrhead bus shop (5610 – 49 St).

My child is nervous about riding the bus…
Because we know the first bus ride alone may be a little scary, our transportation department gives our newest riders a chance to test ride the big yellow school bus. Parents and students are welcome to Meet the Bus events in these communities in mid-August. No registration needed.

August 2018 Meet the Bus locations, dates and times will be posted here as information become available.
